Alright, let's get a big one out of the way. They're the most hyped band in the world, and very few people actually bother to listen to them objectively. Until I did I wrote them off entirely, but after listening to them I've found that they're actually an excellent band. Their new album is brilliant, and surprisingly much different than the first. The first is just an amazing smattering of simple, ballsy rock. I don't know which one I like better, but I dig them both a lot.

They seem to be a very love or hate band, but if you hate them, are you just trying to go against the media hype or do you legitimately not like their music? Discuss.

i first got into the Arctic Monkeys when i saw them on 'Later with Jools Holland' TV music show before they were heard of. I immediately thought this band were great and that night went online and got hold of the freely available demo songs. Wow, no band has ever hit me like the Arctic Monkeys did since Oasis. If no-one has the demo's then go and get hold of them as they are actually better than some of the final studio versions on the debut album.

The 2'nd album i have to say didnt hit me instantly, it's one of those albums that just gets better the more you play it and i now think it's a great album. As Wilcaz says, it's alot different to the 1st album but this in no bad thing as its called progression.

I'm certainly looking forward to the next album

Agree with all of you, but to add something else : I think all bands in the world right now should take the Monkeys' example. I have never seen a new band working as hard as they do.

Usually the formula with very big new band : they release a super-publicised album and then stretch it the longes they can. But I mean really stretching it. Releasing a single, then waiting months and months and months untill it's more than overplayed. Then, 6 months later, they release another one and continue as long as it works. If it works up to 6 singles, then be it. And finally slack off for a couple years, start working on a new super-publicised album which will come out like 4 years after the previous one. And then they do one, but only one super-publicised tour (to make sure evey one knows that they do tour sometimes) every 5 years because they're too fucking busy counting their money and/or they don't even like playing live, too much work.

The formula with Arctic Monkeys : work on songs, play a thousand gigs, get signed, give away demos, play another thousand gigs, release a super popular album, play a million gigs, release 2 or 3 singles from the album only as a formality because fans already know/don't need to be told their favorite songs anyway, play a super-giant tour, release a non-album single because they don't realy want to wait for the next album to put it on, play a couple gigs while working on a follow-up, play the new songs in a thousand gigs, release a brilliant follow-up not even a year later and do another million of gigs.

British bands like Razorlight, The Kooks, Dirty Pretty Things, not even came close to Montreal once. Yeah, they tour a lot Europe. But Arctic Monkeys too, and they still played Montreal four times. In two years. I don't even want to imagine how many times they played London or Manchester.

If only all bands were that productive and inspired... It shows what bands really, but I mean REALLY enjoy what they're doing as a job.

Yeah we are second actually, and a lot of great Brit bands play Toronto. But that's about it, sometimes there's a stop in Vancouver also.
